Aging Naturally With More Peace and Positivity

Today’s post isn’t about entrepreneurship p, but it IS about mindset, confidence, the power of marketing, and owning one’s personal power, especially as a woman.

As a woman in my late 30s, I can’t help but notice the bombardment of messaging around aging. I don’t know about you, but for me, the conversation often feels dominated by fear and the pressure to fix or stop the natural process. After seeing and hearing this message a million times, I decided I would need to be very intentional about my own filters and which beliefs I adopted as my own.

So, even though I’m just one voice against millions, I do want to share my perspective, a different perspective—one that tries to celebrate aging, reframes the way we see our lines and marks, and helps us embrace the journey with joy and grace. Although I’m not perfect, and am still subjected to the marketing and messaging of this industry all the time, this mindset shift helps me, and I hope it will encourage you to live more joyfully, with peace and gratitude for additional years—lines, creases, sunspots, and all.

You Are the Keeper of Your Mind

One of the things I’ve learned in life and business is that you must be the keeper of your own mind. If you don’t actively choose what to believe, you’ll be bombarded with messages from social media, advertisements, and conversations that often make you feel inadequate. Just like with your money beliefs, view on marriage or men, and beliefs around what you can achieve, it’s important to decide what you will allow into your mind.

I choose to see the little marks on my face—like the fine lines around my eyes—as positives. For instance, I view the lines around my eyes as starbursts, like little rays of the sunshine that reflect joy and positivity. Instead of seeing them as something to fix, I see them as a testament to a life well-lived, to a lot of smiles. This perspective makes it hard to dislike or want to change them, because I’ve attached a positive meaning to them. The same goes for my forehead lines, which I see as curiosity lines—a reflection of my lifelong interest and excitement about the world.

Soul Care Over Skin Care: Embracing Inner Radiance

There is a woman I love to follow on social media known as “Midlife Muse” who once shared a story about attending a wine night with her son. Midlife Muse has chosen to age without hair dye, Botox, or fillers, yet she radiates. She is undeniably feminine, stylish, and sexy at 50 years of age.

As she sat at the table with her son and a dozen of his girlfriends, the young women begged her to share her secrets. She beckoned them to come close, then said, “Ladies, I don’t have a skincare routine; I have a soul care routine.”

When I first heard this, I thought, WOW. She is so right; true radiance comes from within and we intuitively sense this about other people. Whether it’s an old woman who radiates life, or an old man who can fill an entire room with his charm, it’s not about a 12-step skincare regimen or perfect genes. It’s about the state of your soul and how you care for it.

When you fill your life with joy, speak kindly to yourself and others, and nurture your spirit, that inner vibrancy shines through. I try to focus on activities that bring me joy and fulfillment, believing that this inner light reflects outwardly more powerfully than any cream or treatment.

See Beauty in Others: Reflecting Back to Yourself

Another perspective shift that has helped me is to consider how I see aging in others. For example, the freckles on my arms remind me of my mother, and they bring a smile to my face. I love the way my husband’s eyes crinkle when he smiles, or how his grandmother’s face radiates warmth and wisdom. When you start to appreciate these signs of aging in others, it becomes easier to extend that same kindness to yourself.

If you can find beauty in the silver threads of an aging dog’s fur, or in the lines that reflect a lifetime of smiles on someone you love, then why not extend that grace to yourself? It’s about recognizing that these marks tell a story—a story of life, love, and experience.

Marks of a Life Well-Lived

Lastly, I try to see the marks on my skin as reflections of the life I’ve lived. My sunspots and freckles are reminders of summers spent floating in the Mediterranean at our European home, feeling so grateful that I could cry feeling the warm sun on my face. Of walking the campus of college in California. Of feeling so fulfilled and alive living in New York City and traveling the world, which was undoubtedly not the most restful and excellent thing I could’ve down for my skin, but that I wouldn’t trade for anything regardless. These marks are the stories of my life, and I wouldn’t trade them for perfect, more protected skin, because they represent some of my happiest memories and whirlwind times.

Whether it’s stretch marks from bringing a child into the world, forehead creases from the nights you spent furrowed over your computer building your business, or lines from years of laughter, these are the marks of a life well-lived. Society may tell us to be embarrassed by them, but I choose to see them as beautiful reminders of the experiences that have shaped who I am. It’s about making peace with the process of aging and seeing the life that’s reflected in every line and spot.

Reframing Aging: Choose Empowerment and Joy

I’m not perfect, and like anyone else, I have moments of worry when it comes to aging. But I always remind myself that I am the keeper of my own mind. My thoughts are powerful tools that I can use to bring myself back to a place of empowerment and beauty. Whether it’s through positive self-talk, reframing my perspective, or simply appreciating the life I’ve lived, I choose to embrace aging with grace and joy.

However you choose to age, I hope these perspectives help you feel more at peace with the aging process and encourage you to live your life with joy and fulfillment. Remember, it’s your journey, and you have the power to choose how you see and experience it. We all do, even when industries and advertisements try to convince us otherwise. ❤️
