The 4 Seasons in Business & Creativity (Which Are You In?)

If your creativity or business felt like one of the seasons, which would you be in?

Even though it’s blisteringly hot where I am in the Mediterranean, I’ve admittedly been in a bit of a winter in business; the past few months, I’ve worked on some projects behind the scenes, paused to feel where I am most aligned, made a few updates, and created space for new ideas.

It made me realize—just as there are seasons to life, there are seasons to business and creativity. While the energy of summer (or a growth season in business) is invigorating, it also takes a lot out of us and leaves us craving what’s next. (Just as in life, when after the bustle of summer, we start looking forward to quieter fall days.) 🍁☕️

If you’ve wondered where your usual creative output is, or felt the need for a more internal season in business, there may be nothing wrong at all—you may just be trying to prolong one season when your heart and business is ready for the next.

I’m back on the Bright Life Podcast with an episode all about this. I hope you have fun uncovering which season you may be in now, finding the benefits of each one, and giving yourself more permission to embrace this as part of the flow of life and biz.

Recognizing the Seasons in Your Life

As I mentioned, lately I’ve been in my own creative winter season. While everything around me is full of summer heat, creatively, I’ve been in a slower, quieter phase. I had a big season of launching programs, releasing my book, and supporting my students in my courses. But after such an intense period, I felt the pull to pause, reflect, and realign.

While earlier on in business I felt the need to override this nudge and keep pushing at all times, I’ve realized is that it’s okay to step back and allow this quieter phase to happen. Winters, while seemingly still, are often when the most profound growth happens under the surface, just as in nature. It’s a time for integration—taking all that you’ve learned and experienced in the busier seasons and giving yourself space to process it. Winters are also a time to begin thinking about new projects or ideas, though you may not be ready to bring them into the world just yet.

For me, this winter has been about quiet reflection, working behind the scenes, and preparing for what’s next. I’ve dabbled in a few different projects, traveled, and am excited to announce a new program to you soon. When you allow yourself to fully embrace this season, it becomes easier to move into the next one when the time is right.

The Energy of Spring: When Ideas Begin to Bloom

After winter comes spring, and this is when things begin to sprout again. Fresh ideas, new energy, and a renewed sense of excitement emerge. You start feeling lighter, more creative, and like there’s motion in your life and work once again.

For me, my winter of rest and reflection, I’m starting to feel those little bursts of inspiration—new projects I want to dive into, new ways to contribute, and fresh energy to share. Spring is a beautiful time for ideation and exploration, even if those ideas aren’t fully formed or ready to launch just yet.

Summer: The Height of Activity and Growth

When spring transitions into summer, that’s when things really take off. Summer is the season of full energy, where everything is in motion. You might be launching a new product, going on a book tour, starting a new creative venture, or just fully immersed in your work. It’s fast-paced and exciting, filled with lots of external activity and the realization of dreams and goals you’ve been working toward.

However, just like the real season of summer, it’s not sustainable to be in this phase forever. Summer is intense, full of energy and growth, but after a while, you start to crave a slower pace. And that’s where autumn comes in.

Autumn: Harvesting and Reflecting

Autumn is the season of harvest—a time to gather the rewards of your hard work and evaluate what’s worked and what hasn’t. After a busy summer, autumn invites you to slow down, reflect on what you’ve achieved, and start preparing for the next cycle. It’s a season of recalibration, where you can assess what needs to be adjusted before heading into a new winter of rest.

I see autumn as the time when you execute on the work you’ve done in your summer, but at a much slower, more intentional pace. Maybe after a launch, you’re able to analyze what worked. Maybe after a book release, you’re able to enjoy your efforts. You start to see the fruits of your labor and can make decisions about how to move forward with the insights you’ve gained. And after autumn, the cycle begins again with winter—a time for more rest, reflection, and renewal.

Honoring the Season You’re In

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that it’s important to honor whatever season you’re in, instead of constantly pushing to stay in a summer or spring mode. For a long time, I thought that I had to always be in full production mode, always achieving, always doing. But the truth is, it’s exhausting and unsustainable to live that way. Natural knows this, and we are part of nature.

By embracing the natural ebb and flow of these seasons, you can give yourself the space you need to recharge, reflect, and realign with what truly matters. Just like in nature, we need each season to thrive. Winters of rest are just as important as summers of growth, and each phase has its own unique value.

What Season Are You In?

Take a moment to reflect on where you are right now. Are you in a winter, needing rest and space for quiet reflection? Are you feeling the excitement of spring, where new ideas are beginning to take shape? Are you in the full energy of summer, immersed in your work and seeing the fruits of your labor? Or are you in an autumn of reflection, gathering your harvest and preparing for the next cycle?

Wherever you are, embrace the season you’re in, and trust that the next one will come when the time is right. Everything has its time and purpose, and when you work in harmony with your natural cycles, life and creativity flow with more ease. Remember, the seasons always change, and each one brings its own beauty and lessons.

Which one are you in right now—the pause and reset of winter, the sprouting of ideas in spring, the full energy of summer, or the harvest of autumn? ❤️
