A rough day or week happens to all of us here and there. The trick is knowing how to reverse momentum and get back to your groove. If you’re looking for one thing that always helps me, keep reading.
As you may know, I have some background in holistic nutrition. I was actually certified through the Nutritional Therapy Association, and that’s what led me into entrepreneurship. While I no longer coach around health, I do still use the power of food to give me my best energy, moods, strength, and sustenance.
If you think about it from a biological perspective, the food you eat literally becomes your cells, hormones, and neurotransmitters. If you’re eating junk food, your body eventually becomes made up of those junk foods, so it only makes sense you would feel sluggish.
I don’t know about you, but I feel an immediate difference after a meal based on what I eat. And that’s why today’s tip—while simple—can really make a big difference.
Try This to Break Out of a Rut With Your Routine
Try a nutrient-packed smoothie
Whenever I’m feeling low energy, I look first to what I’ve been fueling my body with. While nutrition isn’t ALWAYS the cause, more often than not, I can pinpoint something I have or have not been eating as the reason I’m feeling lackluster. Too little water. Too much coffee. Processed grains. Not enough veggies, etc.!
To reverse that, I start with the source. I make myself a smoothie packed with nutrients. My go-to formula is:
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 cup fruit (fresh or frozen)
1 cup frozen veggie (like spinach or zucchini)
1 scoop protein (I prefer vegan usually)
Any nutrient-rich bonuses (like cacao nibs, maca, flaxseed, chia, etc.)
For example, a recipe could look like…
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 frozen banana
1 cup frozen zucchini
1 scoop protein (I prefer vegan usually)
1 T. cacao nibs
Handful fresh mint or splash mint extract
The recipe above makes the creamiest, most delicious mint chocolate chip smoothie that literally tastes like you’re eating ice cream!
What’s really happening inside
you’re giving your body a delicious megadose of antioxidants, fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals, and hydration. The meal is balanced between complex carbohydrates, protein, and fats. Your tastebuds will dance with delight and you will almost certainly feel your mood lift from the intense dose of nutrients!
While this tip sounds so simple, it WORKS. While no food is off limits in my world, and I love a treat here and there, give this a shot if you’ve been feeling tired after your morning pastry or want to reach for an extra coffee during afternoon slump. Don’t even worry about giving those things up as a starting place — just add this to your regimen, and see how you feel.
Whenever I’m feeling off, I start here. Obviously, feel your feelings. Look at what’s under your emotions. But never underestimate your fuel source as a reason for feeling like you’re unstoppable or running on fumes.
