If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “Wouldn’t it be amazing to run an online business with location and schedule freedom… without having to post on social media?” 😅 Good news: that dream CAN be your reality! In fact, it’s one of the amazing things about a copywriting business; you don’t have to use social media to get copywriting clients.
Sound too good to be true?! I thought so, too, but my copywriting business grew to multiple 6-figures without a single client from Instagram or LinkedIn. And in today’s article, I share three methods I used to get copywriting clients that you can, too!
Watch the video How to Get Copywriting Clients Without Posting on Social Media to learn three ways to get clients that DON’T involve posting on social media.
How to Get Copywriting Clients:
3 Ways With No Social Media
1. Freelance Sites
One of the most accessible ways for copywriters to find clients is through freelance websites. Platforms like Upwork and Fiverr offer a variety of opportunities from businesses actively seeking talented writers to write content for them.
These days, businesses need copy for websites, blogs, social media, webinars, case studies, landing pages, and much more. Writers help businesses keep up with this never-ending list of content, keeping the business looking professional and top-of-mind with customers. By searching these platforms, you can connect with companies actively looking to hire copywriters for these writing needs, eliminating the need for posting on social media and wondering when it will turn into customers.
On these platforms, businesses typically share the rates, deadlines, and project details, so you can easily filter to find the best opportunities for you. Whether you’re a generalist or specialized in a particular niche, there’s a demand for your services, and these platforms are one of the simplest ways to find it.
2. Your Network
Your personal network can also be an invaluable resource for finding clients. Reach out to friends, family, past colleagues, or anyone in your circle and let them know you’re offering copywriting services.
I recommend that students in my copywriter course send out personalized emails to 25 contacts when they are ready to open their business doors, introducing their work and expertise. You can even share samples of your writing or a link to your portfolio to showcase your skills.
People are often excited to support someone who is pursuing their passion and dreams, and they might even refer you to others who need your services. Building relationships with your network can lead to referrals and a steady stream of clients.
3. Writing Samples for Your Dream Clients
If there are specific companies you’d love to work with, take the initiative to write a piece of content for them. For example, write a blog post for a coffee shop you adore or a local nonprofit you admire. Conduct thorough research on the brand’s tone, style, and content preferences, and then write a piece that aligns with their values. Offer the sample post to them for free, expressing your genuine interest in working with them in the future.
This approach demonstrates your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to their success, setting you apart right away. Whereas other pitches may go unopened, offering something of value right away warms up the relationship, shows you’re serious, and demonstrates what you can do, making it a no-brainer for the business to reply.
Brands always need well-crafted copy, and your skills as a copywriter are invaluable. By reaching out and providing value to these companies, you can build lasting connections and secure projects that will propel your copywriting business forward.
