5 Tips for How to Find Your Purpose in Life

Embrace Your Desires

The first step that’s helped me is learning to trust your desires. Often, we tend to reason with or suppress our desires, thinking they’re unreasonable or unattainable.

But what if your desires was your INTUITION telling you the path that’s meant just for YOU? No one else can hear it because it’s not they’re path—it’s yours.

Additionally, not everyone wants to be a doctor, accountant, or artist… but because everyone has their own unique desires and callings, the world hangs together with everyone contributing in their own way. Your desires are beautiful and sacred. If your desires weren’t wrong, what would they call you to?

Find Clues in Your Triggers

Sometimes, seeing others living the life we desire can trigger feelings of envy or frustration. Instead of dismissing these emotions, use them as clues. They can indicate unmet desires within yourself.

Pay attention to what activates these emotions. Is there something you secretly long for but have been hesitant to admit, whether in travel, relationships, your career, your confidence, or your boldness? Use these triggers to uncover hidden aspirations waiting to be explored.

Journal as if Nothing Was Off Limits

No surprise here: journaling can be a powerful tool to connect with your desires. But to give it a twist, take some time to write down what you would want if nothing was off-limits—if nothing was better or worse than anything else.

Sometimes we think we want things because we’ve been rewarded by our school systems, families, or society in general. So try to get beyond what OTHER people want you to want… and consider what you would want if it were ALL equally good, worthy, and admired.

Ask: What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid?

This question can be a game-changer. If you weren’t afraid…

  • What would you do?
  • Where would you go?
  • What adventures would you embark on?

There’s part of your answer. 💛 For me personally, this question has led me to moving to New York City, leaving Corporate America, and starting my own business. The path hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been so worth every ounce of fear I had to move past to get there.

Take Small Steps Consistently

Once you’ve uncovered your desires, it’s time to take action. Start small and take baby steps towards what lights your heart on fire. Remember, you don’t have to go from 0 to 100 overnight. Take the time to explore your interests and passions gradually. Take a class, attend a workshop, or simply immerse yourself in the things that bring you joy. These small steps will build momentum and lead you closer to your dreams, giving you feedback on what’s fun for fun’s sake—or what could be your purpose, calling, and so much more.
